A Younger Generation

Most traditionally trained kilt makers are now in their 60s - 70s and with few younger people learning the trade, the future for kilt making isn't promising.

With the interest in sewing and creative arts becoming increasingly popular in schools and the media, this is an ideal time to teach the craft to a younger generation. By offering a qualification of the highest standard hopefully we can create long term career opportunities and raise wages for all qualified kilt makers.

We are currently working with a local school to provide an insight into the kilt making industry and potential career opportunities. This will be done through educational talks at the school, visits to the Academy and work placements.
